Former President Trump decries the New York trial against him, alleging that several crucial witnesses were not called by the prosecution. He expresses frustration that the nature of the crime he is charged with remains unclear.
Former President Donald Trump has vehemently denounced the ongoing criminal trial against him in New York, asserting that the prosecution has withheld vital witnesses and that the charges against him are ambiguous.
Speaking to reporters after the first day of jury deliberations, Trump criticized the prosecution for not calling "a lot of key witnesses" who he claims could have exonerated him. He declined to name the individuals due to a gag order but maintained that their testimony would have been highly beneficial to his case.
Trump's remarks come as the jury continues to weigh the evidence presented during the trial. On Wednesday, the jury sent two notes to the judge, requesting clarification on how to consider the evidence and seeking to review testimony from former American Media, Inc. CEO David Pecker and ex-Trump attorney Michael Cohen.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to all 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. The charges stem from allegations that he falsified financial records related to his hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
During his media address, Trump expressed indignation over the vagueness of the charges against him. "Nobody knows what the crime is because there's no crime," he asserted. "The DA didn't name the crime. They don't know what the crime is."
Trump further accused the judge of bias, claiming that if the case were adjudicated fairly, it would have been dismissed long ago. He called for the judge to intervene and end the proceedings immediately to preserve his reputation.
The trial has attracted significant attention due to its unprecedented nature and the high-profile defendant involved. Trump is the first former president in American history to face criminal charges. The outcome of the trial could potentially shape his political future and have a lasting impact on the country's political landscape.
As the jury continues its deliberations, Trump has maintained his innocence and vowed to fight the charges vigorously. The verdict is expected to be announced in the coming days or weeks.
