Former President Donald Trump was shot at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday evening but is reportedly in "great spirits." The shooter has been confirmed dead, and two bystanders were injured.

Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., told Fox News Digital that he had spoken to his father on the phone, and he was in "great spirits." He said Trump "will never stop fighting to save America, no matter what the radical left throws at him."

Trump later posted on Truth Social that he had been shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of his right ear. He thanked the United States Secret Service and all of Law Enforcement for their rapid response and extended his condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed and to the family of another person that was badly injured.

According to Trump, he knew immediately that something was wrong when he heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. He said much bleeding took place, so he realized then what was happening. He added that it was incredible that such an act could take place in the country and that nothing was known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead.

Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, reacted to the incident on Saturday night, thanking people for their love and prayers for her father and for the other victims of the senseless violence in Butler, Pennsylvania. She said she was grateful to the Secret Service and all the other law enforcement officers for their quick and decisive actions and continued to pray for the country.

Trump's younger daughter, Tiffany Trump, also issued her response, writing that she appreciated the outpouring of love and support for her father and thanking God for keeping him alive. She said political violence is never the answer and blessed the Secret Service and law enforcement who fearlessly intervened.

A Secret Service source told Fox News' Lucas Tomlinson that an FBI fly team was on its way to Butler to begin an "assassination investigation."

The shooting comes as Trump has been holding rallies around the country in support of his 2024 presidential campaign. He has been the target of criticism from Democrats and some Republicans, who have accused him of inciting violence.

Trump has denied these accusations, saying that he is a victim of a "witch hunt" by his political opponents. He has also said that he is not afraid of being assassinated and that he will continue to speak out for his supporters.

The shooting is a reminder of the dangers that politicians face when they hold rallies. In recent years, there have been several incidents of violence at political events. In 2017, a gunman opened fire at a congressional baseball practice, injuring several people. In 2021, a mob of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of the presidential election.

The shooting is also a reminder of the deep divisions in American society. The country is deeply divided over issues such as race, immigration, and gun control. These divisions have led to an increase in political violence in recent years.
