Former President Trump has issued a pointed warning against a "woke" U.S. military, vowing to terminate far-left military officials while criticizing the Pentagon's recent Pride Month recognition.
Former President Donald Trump lashed out at the U.S. military's embrace of "woke" ideologies during an exclusive interview with "Fox & Friends Weekend." Trump asserted that the military should prioritize winning wars rather than engaging in social activism.
"I got to know the real fighting generals. There's not ‘woke’ in the military. There's ‘woke’ at the top," Trump said. "They want there to be woke, but these guys aren't meant for woke. I would fire them. You can't have a woke military."
Trump's comments come amid backlash over the U.S. Navy SEALs and Naval Special Warfare Command's recognition of Pride Month on Facebook. The post, featuring a rainbow design and promoting "Dignity. Service. Respect. Equality. Pride," drew criticism from critics who questioned the military's focus on social issues.
"Those are not the colors I care about. The colors I care about are red, white, and blue," Fox News' Pete Hegseth said. "We all wore green together. We all bleed red together."
Hegseth echoed Trump's concerns, expressing alarm over the impact of "woke" agendas on military readiness. He cited conversations with active-duty personnel who reported feeling restricted and facing lowered standards due to political ideologies.
"The standards are being lowered, slowly eroded to conform to woke Marxist ideologies the Democrat politicians have pushed into the Pentagon. Pentagon should be the biggest meritocracy in the world. Instead, it's a social experiment," Hegseth said.
The military has faced persistent recruitment and retention challenges in recent years, with all major branches falling short of their goals last year. Critics have attributed this decline to far-left ideologues pushing "woke" agendas instead of prioritizing military readiness.
"A commander-in-chief needs to be focused on winning the wars we fight, and that means installing leadership at the Pentagon who are laser-focused on that," Hegseth said.
Trump pledged to reverse the "woke" agenda within the military if he were to return as Commander-in-Chief. He emphasized the importance of unity and a focus on mission success over social issues.
"Getting woke out will go a long way in making sure we're the top in the world," Trump said.
The Pentagon has defended its efforts to foster diversity and inclusion within the military, arguing that it enhances unit cohesion and resilience. However, critics maintain that the excessive focus on social issues has hindered military objectives.
Trump's warning about "woke" military leaders and their impact on military readiness has sparked a heated debate. As the Pentagon grapples with the challenge of balancing diversity and inclusivity with operational effectiveness, the issue is likely to remain at the forefront of military discourse.
