NBC News reporter Dasha Burns reveals that several Black and Latino Trump supporters she encountered at a rally expressed unwavering support for his policies, even despite his past "racist" and "bigoted" comments.
NBC News reporter Dasha Burns has shed light on a surprising trend among minority voters supporting Donald Trump, particularly in the deeply Democratic Bronx borough of New York City. Despite Trump's history of making inflammatory and controversial statements, these voters remain steadfast in their support for his policies, which they believe will improve their lives.
Burns shared her observations on MSNBC's "The Beat with Ari Melber," discussing her coverage of Trump's recent rally in the Bronx. She noted that Black and Latino Trump supporters expressed unwavering support for his anti-illegal immigration stance and economic policies.
Burns attempted to confront these supporters about Trump's past "racist" rhetoric, but her efforts were met with resistance. She explained that these voters prioritize their current economic struggles and the tangible benefits they believe Trump's policies will bring, overshadowing any concerns they might have about his statements.
Burns highlighted the fact that many of the Bronx residents she spoke to were first-generation immigrants who emphasized the importance of legal immigration. They felt that Trump's policies would protect their rights and the integrity of the immigration system.
Moreover, these voters expressed frustration with the current economic climate and rising costs of living. They believed that Trump's economic policies would provide relief and improve their financial situations.
Burns noted that one Trump supporter specifically praised Trump for his policies, contrasting them with President Biden's alleged disrespect towards New Yorkers. Another supporter recalled Biden's controversial comments about Black voters and expressed no qualms with Trump's past statements.
Despite Burns' attempts to address Trump's divisive rhetoric, these voters remained unmoved. They argued that Trump's actions, such as his economic policies, carry more weight than his words.
"They said they don't have a problem with that. They view his actions over his words in terms of what they feel he can do for their community," Burns explained.
Burns' observations underscore the complexity of the Trump phenomenon, particularly among minority voters. While Trump's rhetoric has alienated many, others remain drawn to his policies and promises of economic improvement.
