Former President Trump's classified records trial has been postponed indefinitely, with no new date set. The trial, initially scheduled for May 20th, was postponed by Judge Aileen Cannon of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

The postponement stems from the "myriad and interconnected pre-trial" issues that remain unresolved. Judge Cannon cited the need to fully and fairly consider the various motions before the court before setting a new trial date.

The trial is one of two cases against Trump stemming from Special Counsel Jack Smith's investigation. Trump faces 37 felony charges in this case, including willful retention of national defense information, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and false statements.

In addition to the trial postponement, Judge Cannon also scheduled several pre-trial hearings and deadlines for various motions. The court will consider motions to dismiss, discovery issues, and disclosure reports.

The postponement comes after Judge Cannon unsealed a slew of documents related to the FBI's investigation into Trump and the raid on his Mar-a-Lago estate. These documents provided a detailed look into the raid and the FBI's investigation into Trump's alleged mishandling of classified documents.

Meanwhile, Smith and federal prosecutors have admitted that documents seized during the raid are no longer in their original order and sequence. House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan is investigating whether the evidence was "altered or manipulated."

Trump also faces charges in a separate jurisdiction – in Washington, D.C. – related to election interference and Jan. 6. That trial has also been postponed indefinitely. The Supreme Court is considering arguments on presidential immunity and whether Trump is immune from prosecution in Smith's case.

The high court is expected to rule on the matter by mid-June. Fox News' Jake Gibson contributed to this report.

* The postponement of the trial represents a setback for Special Counsel Smith's investigation.

* Trump has denied all charges against him and has accused Smith of being politically motivated.

* The unsealing of documents related to the Mar-a-Lago raid has provided new insights into the investigation.

* The Supreme Court's ruling on Trump's immunity claims will have significant implications for the case.

* The trial postponement will likely affect the timeline of the election interference investigation and Jan. 6 prosecution.

* Judge Cannon's decision to indefinitely postpone the trial suggests that the pre-trial issues are substantial and will require time to resolve.

* The House Judiciary Committee's investigation into the handling of evidence seized from Mar-a-Lago could uncover further irregularities.

* Trump's legal team will likely use the postponement to prepare their defense and challenge the evidence against him.

* The postponement also provides an opportunity for public discourse on the significance of presidential immunity and the handling of classified materials.

* The resolution of the trial and the Supreme Court's ruling on immunity will have a profound impact on the future of American jurisprudence and the accountability of former presidents.
