MSNBC host Kay Tur accuses former President Trump's supporters of displaying a "mean girl" attitude toward witnesses and the jury during the hush money trial.
MSNBC host Kay Tur has accused former President Trump's entourage of embodying a "mean girl quality" while attending the New York hush money trial.
Tur commented on the appearance and attitude of Trump and his political allies who joined him in court, including Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), and Trump attorney Boris Epshteyn.
"There was something of a — it felt to me like a ‘mean girl’ quality to their presence," Tur said outside of the courthouse.
Tur described how Trump's allies walked into the courtroom stoically but then began to observe and whisper among themselves, particularly at witnesses George Conway and Michael Cohen.
She suggested that this behavior could be a strategy on Trump's part to intimidate witnesses or the jury.
"You get the idea that Donald Trump bringing this crowd with him is not just a show of force for the cameras outside, but it’s a show of force for the witness inside, potentially even the jury," she said.
Tur questioned whether Trump's entourage was attempting to rattle Cohen by flaunting their support for the former president.
Trump's allies have been appearing at the courthouse in recent weeks to offer support and criticize the legal proceedings against him.
Other prominent Trump allies who have attended include former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.), Gov. Doug Burgum (R-N.D.), Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.), and Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.).
Johnson has argued that the judicial system has been "weaponized" against Trump and is being used to punish him while shielding current President Joe Biden.
Tur's observations have sparked discussions about the potential impact of Trump's entourage on the trial's outcome. Some legal experts have expressed concern that their presence could create an intimidating atmosphere for witnesses and jurors.
The hush money trial stems from allegations that Trump paid $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels to silence her about an alleged affair before the 2016 presidential election. Trump has denied the allegations, and the trial is expected to conclude this week.
