Fox News contributor Tulsi Gabbard has slammed President Biden's handling of the rule of law, claiming that the US has become a "banana republic" under his leadership. Meanwhile, a prominent Samoan author has been charged with murdering Gabbard's aunt, sparking concerns about the justice system in the Pacific nation.
Fox News contributor Tulsi Gabbard has taken aim at President Biden, accusing him of undermining the rule of law and turning the United States into a "banana republic." During an appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime, Gabbard expressed her concerns over the Biden administration's handling of various legal matters.
"We are seeing a complete breakdown of the rule of law in this country," Gabbard asserted. "The Biden administration is using the Department of Justice as a political weapon to target its opponents and silence dissent."
Gabbard cited the Justice Department's investigation of former President Donald Trump as an example of politically motivated prosecution. She also criticized the administration's handling of the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, accusing the government of overreaching and infringing on the rights of individuals.
"We are becoming a nation where the law is not applied equally," Gabbard said. "If you are a political enemy of the Biden administration, you can expect to be treated differently under the law."
Meanwhile, the murder of Tulsi Gabbard's aunt has sent shockwaves through Samoa, raising concerns about the safety and justice system in the South Pacific nation. Papalii Sia Figiel, a prominent Samoan author and playwright, has been charged with the stabbing and beating death of 78-year-old Caroline Sinaviana-Gabbard.
The incident occurred on May 25 at Figiel's home in the village of Vaivase-Uta. According to Samoan Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo, an argument broke out between the two women before the incident turned violent. The motive for the attack remains unclear.
Sinaviana-Gabbard was a retired University of Hawaii professor and a well-respected figure in Samoa. She was known for her literary work and her activism in environmental issues. Gabbard, who was close to her aunt, expressed shock and sadness over her death.
"My aunt Caroline was a kind and gentle soul who dedicated her life to helping others," Gabbard said. "I am heartbroken over her loss and I will miss her dearly."
The murder has sparked fears that violence against women is becoming more prevalent in Samoa. According to a recent study, intimate partner violence is the leading cause of death for women in the country. Women's rights advocates are calling for increased awareness and support services to address this issue.
The trial of Figiel is expected to begin later this year. The outcome of the case will be closely watched as it will shed light on the effectiveness of Samoa's justice system in handling high-profile crimes.
