The inaugural UFL regular season has concluded, and four teams remain in contention for the coveted UFL Championship. The Birmingham Stallions, St. Louis Battlehawks, San Antonio Brahmas, and Michigan Panthers will clash in the playoffs, with the Conference Championships set for June 8 and 9, and the inaugural UFL Championship scheduled for June 16.
The Birmingham Stallions enter the playoffs as the overwhelming favorites to capture the UFL Championship. Boasting a 9-1 regular season record, the Stallions have established themselves as a formidable force under the leadership of head coach Skip Holtz. Despite suffering their first loss of the season in Week 9, the Stallions remain the team to beat, with odds of -130 to win the title.
The Stallions' success stems from their balanced offense and stout defense. Quarterback Adrian Martinez is the frontrunner for MVP, having led the league in passing yards and touchdowns. The Stallions also possess a potent running game, anchored by Bo Scarbrough and Trey Ragas. On the defensive side, the Stallions have allowed the fewest points per game in the league, showcasing their ability to shut down opposing offenses.
The St. Louis Battlehawks have emerged as a legitimate contender after a rocky start to the season. Following a coaching change and the acquisition of key players, the Battlehawks have won six of their last eight games, including a decisive victory over the New Jersey Generals in Week 10.
Quarterback AJ McCarron has been instrumental in the Battlehawks' resurgence, leading the league in completion percentage and passing touchdowns. Defensive end Chris Odom has also been a standout performer, racking up 10 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. The Battlehawks will face an uphill battle against the Stallions in the Conference Championship, but they have proven their ability to overcome adversity.
The San Antonio Brahmas have exceeded expectations this season, finishing with a 7-3 record despite being considered underdogs at the start of the year. Quarterback Luis Perez has guided the Brahmas' offense with efficiency, while running back Kalen Ballage has provided a consistent source of production on the ground.
The Brahmas' defense has also played a key role in their success, with cornerback De'Vante Bausby leading the league in interceptions. However, the Brahmas will face a daunting task in the Conference Championship, where they will meet the St. Louis Battlehawks, who have a more experienced and well-rounded squad.
The Michigan Panthers have been a tale of two halves this season. After starting the year with a promising 4-2 record, the Panthers dropped four consecutive games, including a disappointing loss to the Birmingham Stallions in Week 9. However, the Panthers regained their momentum with a come-from-behind victory over the New Orleans Breakers in the regular season finale.
Quarterback Paxton Lynch has shown flashes of brilliance, but he has also been prone to turnovers. The Panthers' running game has also been inconsistent, with no player amassing more than 400 rushing yards. The Panthers will need to play a near-perfect game to have a chance of upsetting the Birmingham Stallions in the Conference Championship.
The UFL playoffs will kick off on June 8 with the Birmingham Stallions hosting the Michigan Panthers in the Eastern Conference Championship. The following day, the St. Louis Battlehawks will travel to San Antonio to face the Brahmas in the Western Conference Championship.
The winners of the Conference Championships will meet in the inaugural UFL Championship on June 16, which will be broadcast on FOX and the FOX Sports app. The final chapter of the UFL's first season promises to deliver high-stakes drama and intense competition, with one team emerging as the league's first champion.
