Vice-Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa, Ukraine's navy chief, reveals Russian warships have been extensively damaged and forced to relocate, as Ukraine asserts control over the Black Sea with the aid of missile strikes and anticipated F-16 fighters.

Ukraine's relentless attacks have dealt a crippling blow to Russia's Black Sea Fleet, forcing the relocation of nearly all combat-ready warships from occupied Crimea to other locations, according to Vice-Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa, Ukraine's navy chief.

In a rare interview ahead of Ukraine Navy Day, Neizhpapa disclosed that Ukrainian missile and naval drone strikes have severely damaged Russia's Sevastopol base, a logistical hub for repairs, maintenance, training, and ammunition storage.

The loss of Sevastopol's extensive facilities has significantly hindered Russia's ability to maintain its fleet in the Black Sea. As a result, the majority of combat-ready ships have been moved to Russia's Novorossiisk naval base, which lacks the infrastructure of Sevastopol.

"They were established over many decades, possibly centuries. And clearly they are now losing this hub," Neizhpapa stated.

Despite Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014, Ukraine has effectively challenged Moscow's control of the Black Sea. Ukraine's forces have destroyed or damaged 27 naval vessels, including five sunk by sea mines laid by Ukrainian naval drones near the Bay of Sevastopol.

In response to the Ukrainian threat, some Russian warships have been deployed to the Sea of Azov to the east of Crimea, indicating a more defensive posture. The Black Sea Fleet is now primarily used for logistics, limited coastal control, and launching Kalibr cruise missiles at Ukraine.

Neizhpapa anticipates the imminent delivery of U.S.-made F-16 fighter aircraft, which will bolster Ukraine's ability to challenge Russia's air superiority over the Black Sea.

"F-16s with the right armaments will be able to push away Russian warplanes. The northwestern part of the Black Sea, particularly the corridor for civilian ships, will be almost 100% secure," Neizhpapa asserted.

Ukraine's success in the Black Sea has enabled it to establish a secure shipping corridor for civilian vessels, without Russia's permission. This has facilitated the export of grain and other commodities, revitalizing Ukraine's economy.

Despite the setbacks, Russia's defense ministry declined to comment on Neizhpapa's remarks. However, President Vladimir Putin has emphasized the modernization and replenishment of Russia's fleet, aiming to enhance its combat stability and strength.

Ukraine's navy faces challenges in expanding its shipping corridor to include the ports of Mykolaiv and Kherson, due to Russia's control over the Kinburn Spit. However, Ukrainian patrol boats and air defenses provide protection to the existing corridor, which handles two daily convoys of vessels.

The ongoing Black Sea conflict highlights Ukraine's determination and resilience, as well as the importance of international support in countering Russian aggression. Neizhpapa's insights underscore Ukraine's growing naval capabilities and its determination to regain full control of the Black Sea.
