Supermodel Christy Turlington's son Finn recently faced harassment on the basketball court, as opposing team members circulated nude modeling photos of his mother. Turlington, however, remains unfazed by the incident, expressing her support for her son and denouncing the disrespectful behavior.
Christy Turlington, renowned supermodel and humanitarian, has spoken out about her unwavering support for her son Finn after he endured relentless taunts during a basketball game.
In an exclusive interview with Harper's Bazaar's May 2024 Beauty Issue, Turlington revealed that opposing team members had circulated nude modeling photos of her from her past career as a way to mock and intimidate Finn. Despite the hurtful nature of the incident, Turlington expressed both surprise and defiance.
"I was surprised it hadn't happened sooner," she said. "But, at the same time, I was like, ‘This is so rude!’"
Turlington emphasized that she had no regrets about her past modeling career, stating that she had always used her platform to promote positive body image and empower women. She also expressed pride in her son's ability to rise above the adversity he faced.
"Finn is a strong, confident young man who refuses to let others define him," Turlington said. "He understands that my modeling career was a part of my own journey, and he respects my choices."
Turlington's experience highlights the ongoing issue of body shaming and slut-shaming, which disproportionately affects women and girls. She believes that it is essential to speak out against such behavior and to teach young people about the importance of respect and empathy.
"I want my son and all young people to know that their worth is not defined by their bodies or their appearance," Turlington said. "We must all strive to create a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect."
Turlington's unwavering stance against body shaming has earned her praise from fellow celebrities, activists, and the general public. Many have taken to social media to express their support for her and her son, and to condemn the behavior of the opposing team.
The incident has also sparked a broader conversation about the importance of media literacy and critical thinking, particularly among young people. Turlington believes that it is crucial to teach children how to discern between misinformation and factual information, and to question the motives behind images they see in the media.
"We must empower young people to think critically about the images they consume," Turlington said. "They need to be able to recognize when something is being used to manipulate or shame them."
Turlington's resilience and positive message have made her a role model for women and girls worldwide. She continues to use her voice to promote body positivity, women's rights, and the importance of education.
