Camara was found deceased inside an apartment on Tuesday, September 3, after military police stormed an apartment block near the camp. The U.S. Army has yet to confirm the details of the incident, which are still under investigation.

Lieutenant Colonel Camara was a highly decorated officer who had served in the V Corps since June 2024. He was the recipient of the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal, among other awards.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with Lt. Col. Josh Camara's family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time," said Colonel Kevin Jackson, V Corps chief of staff. "He was an outstanding leader and mentor, and we will remember his legacy and impact."

Polish news network TVP World reported that Camara's body was found after an intervention by military police. The network cited Deputy District Prosecutor for Military Affairs in Poznań, Colonel Bartosz Okoniewski, who said the evidence suggested "unintentional manslaughter."

The U.S. Army has not confirmed the TVP World report. Fox News Digital has reached out to local authorities in Poznań for more information.

Camara's death marks the second tragic incident involving U.S. soldiers in Poland this year. In June, two U.S. soldiers were ambushed and assaulted by a mob of Turkish nationalists while returning to base in the town of Gdynia.

The U.S. has been rotating troops through Poland as part of NATO efforts to deter Russian aggression in the region. V Corps, headquartered in Germany, is responsible for the U.S. Army's operations in Eastern Europe.

The investigation into Camara's death is ongoing, and the U.S. Army has promised to provide updates as they become available.
