The No. 11 USC Trojans and No. 18 Michigan Wolverines face off on Saturday in a highly anticipated matchup that marks USC's first Big Ten game as a member and the first conference game between the two historic programs in over a decade.

The college football world turns its attention to Ann Arbor, Michigan, on Saturday as the No. 11 USC Trojans and No. 18 Michigan Wolverines square off in a historic Big Ten debut for USC. The Trojans' entry into the conference marks a new era for both programs and the college football landscape.

USC head coach Lincoln Riley has emphasized the significance of the game, urging his team to embrace the magnitude of the occasion. "I think it would be a mistake to totally just discount that [the enormity of the matchup] and just say 'it's another game.' It's a historic game," Riley stated.

USC and Michigan have a long and storied history, having faced each other ten times, with the Trojans holding a 6-4 advantage. Their last encounter occurred on New Year's Day 2007 in the Rose Bowl, where USC emerged victorious with a 32-18 triumph.

However, the current trajectories of the two teams differ significantly. USC has made a strong start to the season, boasting a 2-0 record with an impressive win over No. 16 LSU in their opener. Quarterback Miller Moss has been a standout, showcasing his passing prowess and efficiency. The Trojans' defense, under the guidance of new defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn, has also shown signs of improvement.

In contrast, Michigan has stumbled to a 2-1 start, raising concerns about their offensive struggles. The Wolverines have yet to find their rhythm on the field, averaging only 329.3 total yards and 23.3 points per game. Their quarterback position remains in flux, with Davis Warren and Alex Orji alternating under center.

According to FOX Sports lead college football analyst Joel Klatt, USC's defense has an advantage heading into the matchup. "This team [USC] faces a Michigan team that is in full identity crisis. They're changing the quarterback, and it's not just like one-for-another: it's an entire philosophy for another," Klatt said.

USC's schedule for the remainder of the season includes notable home games against No. 10 Penn State, No. 23 Nebraska, and No. 17 Notre Dame, as well as a road trip to former Pac-12 rival Washington. Michigan, meanwhile, will host undefeated Michigan State and No. 9 Oregon while hitting the road to play Washington, undefeated Indiana, and No. 3 Ohio State.

The clash between USC and Michigan promises to be a spectacle, with a historic atmosphere, high stakes, and the potential for significant implications in the Big Ten standings. The game kicks off on Saturday at 12:00 PM ET and will be televised on FOX.
