Vampire Weekend Bassist Chris Baio Debuts 'Real Housewives' Web Series

On Friday, May 10, Vampire Weekend took their Only God Was Above Us tour to Utah State Fairpark in Salt Lake City for a festival slot at the Kilby Block. The performance marked the band's first show in the city since 2019, and fans turned out in droves to catch the indie rock quartet.

However, the night held a special surprise for fans of Vampire Weekend bassist Chris Baio. Following the band's set, Baio took to social media to announce the launch of his new web series, 'Real Housewives of...'. The series, which features Baio and his friends as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in the suburbs, is a satirical take on the popular reality television franchise.

In the first episode of the series, Baio and his friends attend a party at the home of a wealthy socialite. The episode is filled with the kind of over-the-top drama and petty arguments that have become synonymous with the 'Real Housewives' franchise. However, Baio's series also has a distinctly subversive edge, with the characters often breaking the fourth wall to comment on the absurdity of the situations they find themselves in.

Baio is no stranger to the world of comedy. In addition to his work with Vampire Weekend, he has also released several solo albums and EPs, many of which feature humorous lyrics and themes. Baio has also appeared on the television show 'Portlandia' and has written for the comedy website Funny or Die.

With 'Real Housewives of...', Baio brings his unique brand of humor to the world of reality television. The series is a clever and satirical take on the genre, and it is sure to please fans of both Vampire Weekend and 'Real Housewives'.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Baio said that he was inspired to create 'Real Housewives of...' after watching the popular Bravo franchise with his wife.

"I was just thinking about how funny it would be to do a show like that with my friends," Baio said. "We all live in the suburbs, and we all have these kind of ridiculous lives. I thought it would be fun to make a show about that."

Baio said that he hopes 'Real Housewives of...' will make people laugh and think.

"I hope people will find the show funny, but I also hope they will think about the kind of culture that we live in," Baio said. "The 'Real Housewives' franchise is a very specific kind of show, and it says a lot about our society. I hope people will watch the show and think about what it says about us."

'Real Housewives of...' is available to watch on Baio's YouTube channel. New episodes will be released every Tuesday.
