In the interview with MPR News, Walz said that he is "honored" to be considered for the vice presidential nomination but that he is focused on his work as governor of Minnesota. He also said that he has not had any formal discussions with Harris or any other Democratic candidates about the possibility of being their running mate.

If Walz were to be selected as the vice presidential nominee, he would be the first Minnesotan to serve in that role since Hubert Humphrey in 1964. Humphrey served as vice president under President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1965 to 1969.

Walz is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and served in the Army for 24 years. He was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 2006 and served as the House Minority Leader from 2013 to 2018. He was elected governor in 2018 and was reelected in 2022.

Walz has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump and has been a strong supporter of abortion rights and gun control. He is also a member of the Democratic Governors Association, which is a national organization that supports Democratic governors.

The Democratic Party is scheduled to hold its national convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 13 to 16, 2024. The party's presidential nominee is expected to be announced at the convention.
