A new poll conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research reveals that Democratic vice presidential nominee Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz enjoys a higher level of support among U.S. adults compared to Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio.
The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research recently conducted a poll to gauge the favorability ratings of the 2024 vice presidential candidates, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Sen. J.D. Vance. The results indicate that Walz, the running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris, has a 36% favorability rating among U.S. adults, while Vance stands at 27%.
Walz's favorability rating is complemented by a relatively low unfavorability rating of 25%. In contrast, Vance faces a higher level of unfavorability, with 44% of respondents holding an unfavorable view. This disparity further highlights the differing levels of recognition and perception between the two candidates.

Despite his lower overall favorability rating, Vance has experienced a notable surge in support within the Republican Party. The poll found that only 3 out of 10 Republicans reported favorable feelings towards Vance in mid-July. However, this number has since doubled to 6 out of 10 among Republicans. This increase is largely attributed to heightened awareness about Vance and his policies.
Walz maintains consistent favorability ratings with 6 out of 10 Democrats. Approximately 3 out of 10 Democrats indicate they do not know enough about him to form an opinion. This reflects Walz's established presence within the Democratic Party and his familiarity to Democratic voters.

The poll also underscores the significant awareness gap between Walz and Vance. A substantial 4 out of 10 Americans lack sufficient knowledge about Walz to form an opinion. About 3 out of 10 Americans face a similar challenge regarding Vance. This highlights the ongoing need for both candidates to raise their profiles and introduce themselves to the wider voting public.
The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll was conducted from August 8 to August 12, surveying 1,164 adults via the NORC "probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel." The panel is designed to represent the U.S. population, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points for all respondents.
