Westchester County executive George Latimer, who is primary challenging Rep. Jamaalal Bowman in Tuesday's primary in New York State, said the Squad member's cursing at a rally was 'inappropriate.'

Westchester County Executive George Latimer, who is challenging incumbent Congressman Jamaal Bowman in Tuesday's Democratic primary in New York's 16th congressional district, has criticized Bowman's use of profanity at a recent political rally.

"I think it's inappropriate for any elected official to use that type of language," Latimer said in an interview with Fox News. "It's not befitting of the office that we hold."

Bowman, a member of the progressive "Squad" in the House of Representatives, was captured on video using an expletive to describe his opponents at a rally last week. The video quickly went viral on social media, drawing criticism from some Democratic and Republican politicians, including Latimer.

"I think it's important that we set a good example for our young people," Latimer said. "And when we use that type of language, it sends the wrong message."

Bowman has defended his use of profanity, saying that it reflects the frustration that many Americans feel towards the current political climate. He has also said that he does not believe his language is inappropriate for the office he holds.

"I think people are tired of the political correctness that we see in Washington," Bowman said in a statement. "I'm not going to apologize for speaking my mind."

Latimer, a moderate Democrat, is considered the frontrunner in the primary race against Bowman. He has outraised Bowman in campaign contributions and has the backing of several prominent Democratic leaders, including former New York City Mayor David Dinkins.

If Latimer wins the primary, he will face Republican challenger Michael Lawler in the general election in November. Lawler is a former member of the New York State Assembly who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump.

The 16th congressional district is located in the suburbs of New York City and includes parts of Westchester County and the Bronx. It is currently held by Bowman, who was first elected in 2020 after defeating incumbent Eliot Engel in a primary challenge.
