Tyler Cherry, a newly promoted White House associate communications director, has dismissed controversial social media posts he made years ago, saying they do not reflect his current views.

A White House official who sparked controversy with past social media posts downplaying police, supporting the anti-Israel movement, and promoting "Russiagate" has now dismissed these posts, claiming they were written when he was younger and do not reflect his current views.

Tyler Cherry, who was recently promoted to associate communications director at the White House after working at the Department of Interior for over three years, has come under scrutiny for his past social media activity.

In one tweet from 2015, Cherry stated that he was "praying even harder for an end to a capitalistic police state motivated by explicit and implicit racial biases." The tweet came amidst riots following the police custody death of Freddie Gray, a Black man, in Baltimore.

Several months later, Cherry compared modern-day policing to "a direct evolution of slave patrols and lynch mobs."

Cherry has also been an outspoken advocate for Palestinians against Israel. In a July 2014 post, he wrote, "Cheersing in bars to ending the occupation of Palestine – no shame and f--- your glares #ISupportGaza #FreePalestine."

Additionally, Cherry has criticized Republicans, accusing them of being overly focused on "white grievance politics." He has also advocated for abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

In a recent post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Cherry wrote, "Past social media posts from when I was younger do not reflect my current views. Period."

"I support this Administration’s agenda – and will continue my communications work focused on our climate and environmental policies," he stated.

The White House has declined to comment on Cherry's past posts, but senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates previously told Fox News Digital that the administration is "very proud to have Tyler on the team."

The Biden administration has reaffirmed its support for Israel despite the country's ongoing conflict with Hamas. However, tensions between the White House and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have grown over the rising death toll in Gaza.

Cherry's past social media posts have raised concerns among some that he may not be suited for a position in the Biden administration. However, the White House has defended Cherry, stating that his current views align with the administration's policies.

It remains to be seen whether Cherry's past social media activity will continue to cast a shadow over his career in the White House.
