An antisemitism watchdog group is calling for the Biden administration to fire a recently promoted White House official whose anti-Israel social media posts resurfaced this week.

Tyler Cherry, an associate communications director at the White House, has come under fire for his past anti-Israel social media posts, which include calls for the elimination of the Jewish state and support for the Boycott, Divestments, Sanctions (BDS) movement. The antisemitism watchdog group StopAntisemitism has called for Cherry's immediate firing, accusing the Biden administration of failing to properly vet him.

Cherry joined the Biden administration in 2021 and was recently promoted to his current role. Following the backlash, he deleted his social media posts and issued a statement saying that they do not reflect his current views. However, StopAntisemitism founder Liora Rez expressed outrage at the White House's decision to hire and promote someone with such anti-Israel views.

Rez noted that Cherry's posts echo the rhetoric heard on college campuses, where anti-Israel sentiment has been growing. She accused the Biden administration of forgetting the time it took to find and eliminate Osama bin Laden, while pressuring Israel to end its operations in Gaza after just nine months.

Cherry's promotion has sparked concerns that the Biden administration is appointing individuals with anti-Israel views to prominent positions. Rez cited Maher Bitar, a special assistant to the National Security Council, who has been accused of spreading hatred of Israel and promoting BDS.

Some critics have suggested that the White House's actions may be a deliberate attempt to give antisemites a seat at the table. Fox News's Andrew Mark Miller reported that the White House has defended Cherry's appointment, stating that they are "very proud to have Tyler on the team."

The controversy surrounding Cherry's appointment highlights the ongoing tensions between the United States and Israel over the conflict in Gaza. The Biden administration has supplied Israel with military aid but has also been criticized for trying to dictate its military response.

Experts have expressed concern that the increasing anti-Israel rhetoric on social media and in the political sphere could contribute to a rise in antisemitism. The Anti-Defamation League recently reported a 125% increase in antisemitic incidents in the United States in 2021, the highest number recorded since the organization began tracking such incidents in 1979.

The White House has been urged to take immediate action to address the controversy surrounding Cherry's appointment and to ensure that individuals with anti-Israel views are not given positions of influence within the administration. The Biden administration has a responsibility to condemn antisemitism and to foster a climate of tolerance and respect for all religions and cultures.
