Democratic strategist Doug Schoen warns of potential electoral consequences if the White House continues to ignore advice from outside sources.
The Biden administration's "near-total freeze-out" on outside advice has sparked concerns among Democratic strategists, who fear that the party could face significant challenges in the upcoming midterm elections.
Doug Schoen, a veteran Democratic strategist, has expressed alarm over the administration's failure to heed warnings about voters' concerns on key issues such as the economy and the border. He also highlighted the growing divide within the Democratic Party over President Biden's handling of the war in Israel.
"Progressives could stay home, they could vote for RFK Jr. And in states like Minnesota and particularly Michigan, that could be enough to cost the president at least two swing states and potentially the presidency," Schoen warned.
According to Schoen, the White House has become "uniquely tone-deaf" and is ignoring advice from experienced Democratic insiders who have been successful in previous campaigns. He believes that the Biden-Harris campaign lacks a clear strategy and message on critical issues, instead relying on attacks on former President Donald Trump and statistical records of accomplishments.
Polls conducted by Schoen and others indicate that this approach is not resonating with voters. He emphasized the need for the campaign to address concerns about inflation and the southern border effectively.
Meanwhile, the war in Israel has created a growing rift within the Democratic Party. Progressive members, such as Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar, have strongly criticized the Biden administration for its continued support for Israel amid rising tensions.
Tlaib has accused Biden of enabling genocide in Gaza, stating that the party will hold him accountable in November. Omar has also condemned the administration's inaction and called for a change in course.
On the other hand, Democratic Senator John Fetterman has been a vocal advocate for Israel in its ongoing conflict with Hamas. Biden faces a challenging political landscape as he approaches the November midterm elections. The ongoing war in Israel and the divide within the party on this issue could pose significant hurdles for his re-election bid.
The administration's perceived lack of responsiveness to outside advice and the growing divisions within the party have raised concerns among Democratic strategists. Whether the White House can address these issues and regain the confidence of voters remains to be seen.
