With 31 games remaining, the Chicago White Sox have endured a dismal season, reaching 100 losses and facing the possibility of matching the worst record in Major League Baseball history.
The Chicago White Sox have stumbled to their 100th defeat of the season, marking a grim milestone and putting them on track for one of the most disastrous campaigns in Major League Baseball history. With 31 contests left on their schedule, the White Sox are in danger of equaling or surpassing the ignominious record set by the 1962 New York Mets, who finished 40-120-1.
Sunday's 9-4 loss to the Detroit Tigers epitomized their abysmal season. Andy Ibáñez delivered a home run and collected three RBIs for the Tigers, while Colt Keith also chipped in three RBIs. Despite a valiant attempt from Andrew Vaughn, who hit a homer and drove in two runs, the White Sox could not overcome their defensive lapses and offensive inconsistencies.

Jonathan Cannon's shaky performance on the mound further hindered the White Sox's chances. He allowed five runs and eight hits in just four innings, putting the team in an early hole. The loss marked the White Sox's third consecutive defeat and extended their dismal record to 69-100.
To avoid tying the Mets' record, the White Sox must finish the season with a 12-19 record, a daunting task given their current trajectory. Only the 1916 Philadelphia A's have reached 100 losses in fewer games than the White Sox, who are on pace to eclipse their own franchise record for most losses in a season. In 1970, the White Sox finished with a dismal 56-106 record, while in 1932, they posted a .325 winning percentage with a 49-102-1 mark.

Managerial turmoil has further plagued the White Sox this season. Pedro Grifol was fired on August 8th amidst the team's downward spiral, and Grady Sizemore was appointed as interim manager. However, the team has continued to struggle under Sizemore, going 3-11 in his tenure thus far.
