Undecided voters in the battleground state of Wisconsin are carefully weighing the candidates' stances on foreign policy, social issues, and economic opportunities before making their final choice.

With less than a month remaining until the 2024 presidential election, the vast majority of voters have made their choice. However, in the pivotal swing state of Wisconsin, a small but influential group of undecided voters could potentially determine the outcome.

Marquette Law School's latest poll reports that only 4% of Wisconsin registered voters remain undecided, indicating that most have already made up their minds. However, these few remaining voters hold significant power in a state that has flipped between Republican and Democratic candidates in recent elections.

One such undecided voter, 86-year-old Edgar Schiekiera, expressed concerns about former President Trump's comments on foreign policy. Schiekiera, an immigrant from Germany who grew up during World War II, finds Trump's statements on NATO and other international alliances troubling.

"I voted for Trump the first year. I voted for him the second year. I don't — this time, I don't know," Schiekiera said. "I'm from Germany, and things that he's said about [the] NATO Alliance — he wants to quit it, and he doesn't know what to do. A real danger lives overseas."

Schiekiera also raised concerns about abortion, noting that Trump's position has shifted over time. "I got my own ideas," he said.

Another undecided voter, Keon Pierce of Milwaukee, is leaning towards Vice President Kamala Harris but remains unconvinced. Pierce emphasizes the need for a candidate who will "help all people," especially marginalized communities like Black, Indian, and Asian Americans.

"I'm waiting to see who has the best — the best protection for different groups of people. You know, the best rights and best laws that can help all groups of people," Pierce said.

Despite Harris's identity as both Black and Indian, Pierce noted that former President Barack Obama's presidency did not necessarily translate into tangible benefits for all Black Americans. Pierce is also open to considering Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

In Milwaukee, Pierce highlighted the lack of opportunities and limited education in the inner city. "It's bad here. It's really segregated here, and opportunities are limited," he said.

The latest Marquette Law School poll shows that Harris leads Trump in Wisconsin, with 49% to 44% of registered voters supporting her. Undecided voters could play a crucial role in bridging this gap and influencing the outcome of the election.

As the campaign progresses, both candidates will need to address the concerns of undecided voters like Schiekiera and Pierce, clearly articulating their positions on foreign policy, social issues, and economic opportunities. The next few weeks will be critical in shaping the final choices of these pivotal voters and determining the future of Wisconsin in the 2024 presidential election.
