Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark and New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu, two of the WNBA's top shooters, have declined the invitation to compete in the 3-point contest during the All-Star break.

Despite social media outrage, the WNBA has confirmed that both Clark and Ionescu were offered a spot in the contest but declined the invitation.

Clark, the NCAA all-time scoring record holder, has made the most 3-pointers in the WNBA this season, with 71. Ionescu is tied for fourth with 74.

Despite their exceptional shooting abilities, both players opted out of the competition. They will not participate in the skills challenge either.

Instead, the 3-point contest will feature Stefanie Dolson (Washington Mystics), Jonquel Jones (Connecticut Sun), Kayla McBride (Minnesota Lynx), Allisha Gray (Atlanta Dream), and Marina Mabrey (Connecticut Sun).

As for the month-long break, Clark said she will use it to rest and recover.

Despite their absence from the 3-point contest, both Clark and Ionescu remain two of the most exciting and skilled players in the WNBA.

Other notable stars who will participate in the All-Star festivities include Breanna Stewart (Seattle Storm), Candace Parker (Los Angeles Sparks), and A'ja Wilson (Las Vegas Aces).

The All-Star Game will take place on Saturday, July 15th, in Chicago. The 3-point contest will be held prior to the game.

The WNBA All-Star break will provide players with a much-needed opportunity to rest and recharge before the second half of the season.
