Xander Schauffele became the first player to win two majors in the same year since Jack Nicklaus with a closing round of 65 at The Open on Sunday.
Xander Schauffele etched his name into golf history on Sunday by becoming the first player since Jack Nicklaus to win two major championships in the same year. Schauffele's victory at the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon marked his second major title of the year, adding to his win at the PGA Championship in May.
The 29-year-old American overcame challenging weather conditions and a formidable field to secure his historic triumph. Entering the final day with a one-stroke deficit to Billy Horschel, Schauffele produced a flawless bogey-free round while his rivals struggled.

Schauffele's dominance on the back nine was particularly impressive, as he carded three birdies in a four-hole stretch to establish a three-shot lead over Horschel. Despite the pressure, Schauffele maintained his composure and closed out the victory with a par on the 18th hole.
"It was hard. It was very difficult," Schauffele said after his triumph. "I think winning the first one helped me a lot today on the back nine. I had some feeling of calmness come through, and it was very helpful and what has been the back nine's I've ever played in a tournament."

Schauffele's victory at Royal Troon not only marked a personal milestone but also a significant achievement for American golf. For the first time since 1982, U.S. golfers have swept all four major championships in a single year. Scottie Scheffler won the Masters, Bryson DeChambeau defended his U.S. Open title, and Schauffele secured The Open and PGA Championship.
Despite his recent success, Schauffele remained humble and expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to compete at the highest level. "It's a dream come true to win two majors in one year," Schauffele said. "It took me forever to win just one and to have two now is just something else."

Schauffele's triumph at Royal Troon will be remembered as a landmark moment in golf. His performance throughout the championship was a testament to his skill, determination, and unwavering belief in his abilities. With two major championships to his name, Schauffele is well on his way to becoming one of the most decorated golfers of his generation.
